Melissa Hatcher Photography – Photo Blog bio picture

Meet Melissa!

Let's see......you want to know about me, huh?

I'm pretty simple.  I've been in love with the same man since I was 16 years old.  He is my best friend and we believe in each other....always have....always will.  We have 3 of the most beautiful children you'll ever lay eyes on!  I'm most comfortable in jeans and a t-shirt (baseball undershirts are my fave!) although I do love getting dressed up for a night out on the town.  Sushi Den, anyone?  I'm a southern girl through and through.  I love crawfish!  Give me a huge slice of chocolate cake with fudge icing and a cold coke and I'm in heaven!  I'm a Daddy's girl.  I love the outdoors and I am more than willing to take part in anything remotely competitive.  I hate to lose even more than I hate clutter.  I am a lover of practical jokes and was taught by the best.  This is why, to this day, I don't answer my Mother's phone calls on April Fool's Day.  I cherish my friends and family.  They are the ones that have made me who I am.  I love the Lord with all my heart.  He is my strength and my joy.  He has blessed me in every way!  Oh, yeah......and did I mention I LOVE photography!  It is my PASSION!

In my bag:  Nikon D700, 85mm f 1.4 and 50mm f 1.8

John {Senior Session}

I don’t even know where to start with this guy!  I love his family and I love HIM!  What a great guy!  Sorry though ladies….he’s taken.  :)

I still can’t believe he is a Senior!  Where does the time go?

We had such a great time during this session.  It was pretty much impossible to take a bad pic of John.  He’s quite the handsome guy and always smiling and laughing.  He was probably laughing at me, but whatever, he was laughing.  I saw my very first photo session snake, but luckily John was there with to run him off for us!  I still wish I could have captured his Mom’s reaction on film.  Oh well…..

It was such an honor to be asked to shoot his pictures.  I loved every minute of it.  I wish him all the best in his upcoming Senior year and all his future endeavors!  I know he’ll go far!

Shannen {Senior Session}

I had a great time at this session.  Shannen is a big fan of the movies, so we took advantage of a cool new theater in town that had some cool locations.  I loved all the colors and the light.  I’m obsessed with light lately.  I use to go to sessions thinking an overcast day would be great so I wouldn’t have to worry about weird shadows or finding the perfect light.  But now….I pray for sunlight for all my sessions.  I just love the warmth and pop it gives to an image.  Backlight is my fave!  Anyway, we had a great time and I always love Senior sessions.  I get caught up in their own excitement for their last year of high school.  Here are some favorites from Shannen’s session!

Maddie {Baby’s 1st Year ~ 6 months}

How sweet is this little girl?  And her big sister…..OMG!  They are both so adorable and so comfortable in front of the camera.  I just love this whole family!   I can hardly believe Maddie is almost a year old.  It seems like just the other day she was in her Momma’s belly and we were waiting on her arrival.  We had such a good time in the park, playing and taking pictures.  The light was beautiful that day and I couldn’t ask for better subjects.  :)  It was a joy!  Here are some of the favorites from that morning.

Samantha {Senior Session}

I love it when my Seniors are just as excited as I am about their session.  I just met Sam this week and it has been so much fun getting to know her and figuring out just what kind of session she wanted.  We went out this past week and captured some great shots in the setting sunlight.  I love it when I can capture such great light.

Samantha, I hope you enjoy your sneak peek!  I’ll be working on the rest of the pics this week.  I’m finding it difficult to narrow them down to a reasonable number.  :)  You’re such a beautiful girl inside and out!

Kenny {Senior Session}

I had a great time the other night going out for my first Senior Session of the season!  I absolutely LOVE seniors!  This handsome guy is my neighbor and so great in front of the camera!  He’s just a few days from graduation and I wish him all the best!

Project 52 {4/52} “Soothing Repetition”

Here’s a pic of my little man practicing writing his name!  I don’t know how soothing it is for him, but he doesn’t seem to mind the repetition.  He is doing such a great job in Kindergarten this year.  I’m so proud!

Week 4 – “Soothing Repetition”

Project 52 {3/52} Shades of Gray

This week’s challenge was harder than I thought it would be.  I ended up not really coming up with a “Shades of Gray” picture idea.  I did however come up with a picture from this week.

My oldest was in her very first ever Spelling Bee this week.  She has been studying for weeks and was doing really well.  I have to say though…picture yourself as a fourth grader in a room full of fellow students and nervous parents, not to mention the 5 judges over to one side, and try to spell a word.  It was crazy!  She manage to get through 2 rounds and then got stumped on the third round with the word, “recommend”.  She thought it was two “c’s”.  She was terribly upset at herself and was crying, but I was super proud of her!  It takes a lot of guts to get up there and try something like that.  I was sweating just watching the whole thing go down.  So, here is a picture of her doing her thang!

I realize the “shades of gray” thing doesn’t really go, but whatever…it’s going to have to work for this week.

Week 3 – “Shades of Gray”

Project 52 {2/52} Inspired by a song

How cute is he?  Andy man was super helpful to me this week for my newest challenge.

My week 2 image from my project 52 challenge had to be inspired by a song.  I chose “Splish Splash” by Bobby Darin.

Week 2 – Inspired by a Song

Project 52 {1/52} Something around the house

A challenge.  Everyone needs one, right?

I’ve finally decided to try out this Project 52 thing.  I’m taking it on with MCP Actions since they will be giving me the theme for each week.  Here’s hoping I can keep up with this challenge.  Wish me luck!

Here is Week 1:  Something around the house

Post Christmas goodness

We had a great Christmas this year!  My family came into town and we had a great time playing games, talking, going to the movies and just enjoying each other’s company.  The kids woke up to tons of goodies under the tree.  Our oldest got a guitar and has been spending a lot of her down time learning as much about it as possible.  It’s nice to have an in-home guitar teacher.  My middle daughter racked up 4 or 5 of these “learn to sew” projects and has turned out to be really good at it.  My son, well…..he spends most of his time playing his new DSi or coming in 1st place on his new Mario Cart game.

Me?  I got lots of great things this year but the most memorable has to be  my new 20-70mm lens…..mug?  Yeah, that’s right.  My hubby thought it would be funny to surprise me with what looks just like a new lens, but instead is a mug.  What?  Where he finds these things is beyond me.  It made for a good laugh on Christmas morning.

It’s now New Year’s Eve.  I need to sit down and write out a list of my new year goals and aspirations.  In the meantime, I’m just enjoying my blessings.  I hope you all have a great New Year filled with many blessings!
