Melissa Hatcher Photography – Photo Blog bio picture

Meet Melissa!

Let's see......you want to know about me, huh?

I'm pretty simple.  I've been in love with the same man since I was 16 years old.  He is my best friend and we believe in each other....always have....always will.  We have 3 of the most beautiful children you'll ever lay eyes on!  I'm most comfortable in jeans and a t-shirt (baseball undershirts are my fave!) although I do love getting dressed up for a night out on the town.  Sushi Den, anyone?  I'm a southern girl through and through.  I fell in love with crawfish way before my man!  I love to eat!  Give me a huge slice of chocolate cake with fudge icing and a cold coke and I'm in heaven!  I'm a Daddy's girl.  I love the outdoors and I am more than willing to take part in anything remotely competitive.  I hate to lose even more than I hate clutter.  I am a lover of practical jokes and was taught by the best.  This is why, to this day, I don't answer my Mother's phone calls on April Fool's Day.  I cherish my friends and family.  They are the ones that have made me who I am.  I love the Lord with all my heart.  He is my strength and my joy.  He has blessed me in every way!  Oh, yeah......and did I mention I LOVE photography!  It is my PASSION!

Merging

To merge or not to merge?   That is the question.

I’m so excited to have launched my new blog.  Although it is not yet completed, I’m blown away at the versatility and numerous options I can create.  I still have my website up and running, but more and more I’m contemplating the merging of the two worlds.  Blog = Website, Website = Blog.

I understand that everyone has an opinion on the matter.  Some feel that a website is like a portfolio so to speak.  It shows off your work in a very professional manner and gives information to the consumer upon request.  The blog is more for the photographer to show off their personality and style, in a very relaxed and fun way.  It allows the client and all of those surfing the net to keep up with the photographer and get to know them on a more personal level.

So……because I can see both sides, I’m having a very difficult time deciding which direction I want to go.  Honestly, the idea of having a “one-stop-shop” totally appeals to me.  I would love to have just ONE address.  It just seems so much more functional and easy to have them merge.

hmmmm?  thoughts?

January 14, 2010 - 1:40 pm Windy - I think a lot of professionals have both. I think the blog is a great way to reach people and show your personality like you said, but some potential clients may think you are not legit if you don't have a website. Just my opinion.

February 16, 2010 - 9:18 pm Angie - Hi there ~ Lori sent me your information, and when I saw this topic I just had to speak up! My hubbie is a web designer, and after recently putting together my blog and portfolio I realized that he was so right when he recommended keeping them together. The reason is, most of my clients hire me not only for my work, but my personality. One stop shopping usually makes us all a little happier. :) Almost as importantly though is your traffic and search engine ratings. Part of what influences them is how current and relevant your content is. If you constantly writing in your blog about relevant photog stuff, your rating in the search engines will go up... especially if you are linking to others and they are linking to you in posts. So, in my opinion, together is the way to go. But... just like anything, it all comes down to what you like. Love your work! Angie www.moresugarthanspice.com
