Hi there ~ Lori sent me your information, and when I saw this topic I just had to speak up! My hubbie is a web designer, and after recently putting together my blog and portfolio I realized that he was so right when he recommended keeping them together.

The reason is, most of my clients hire me not only for my work, but my personality. One stop shopping usually makes us all a little happier. :)

Almost as importantly though is your traffic and search engine ratings. Part of what influences them is how current and relevant your content is. If you constantly writing in your blog about relevant photog stuff, your rating in the search engines will go up... especially if you are linking to others and they are linking to you in posts.

So, in my opinion, together is the way to go.

But... just like anything, it all comes down to what you like.

Love your work!

I think a lot of professionals have both. I think the blog is a great way to reach people and show your personality like you said, but some potential clients may think you are not legit if you don't have a website. Just my opinion.
